Conference on the new reporting framework for banks: COREP, FINREP and XBRL • Invoke invited as Speaker - May, 9th 2012

Invoke is pleased to participate in a 1-day conference in Copenhagen on Wednesday 23 May 2012, organised in conjunction with XBRL Denmark and the Danish Bankers' Association (Finanssektorens Hus).

The purpose of the event is to give participants an insight into the recent developments concerning financial disclosure and prudential reporting requirements for banks in the European Union (EU). Under the auspices of the European Banking Authority (EBA) and in line with the European Commission’s legal framework (CRD IV), it has been decided that from 2013 onwards, banks operating in the EU are required to submit both their solvency reporting (COREP) and their financial reporting (FINREP) to the financial supervisory authorities using the standard reporting format, XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language).

Joined by peers from the EBA, the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority (Finanstilsynet) and other prominent software providers and consulting firms, Antoine Bourdais (Managing Director of the Bank & Insurance SBU at Invoke) will highlight Invoke's considerable experience in deploying both bespoke and packaged solutions specifically adapted to the reporting needs of banking organisations of all sizes, and whatever the maturity of their IT infrastructure.

Regulatory change is often the occasion for an enterprise-wide efficiency review and a catalyst for technology enhancements. Using case-studies such as Danske Bank, Antoine Bourdais will give attendees a front-line view of how Invoke XBRL solutions can be deployed in such a way as to transform regulatory and compliance issues like COREP and FINREP into vectors for genuine business process improvement.

Invoke joins the US-based Data Transparency Coalition as Founding Member - May, 2nd 2012

Invoke is honored to join a group of prestigious technology companies (such as Microsoft, SAP and Teradata) and other public interests that recently launched the Data Transparency Coalition (DTC) in Washington D.C. to advocate for the standardization of U.S. federal data published online.

The coalition will support the bipartisan Digital Accountability and Transparency Act (DATA Act) and other efforts to make federal data easily searchable and downloadable. The Data Transparency Coalition is advocating for common sense initiatives that encourage the productivity and transparency necessary for government reform.

Too often, the U.S. federal government doesn’t publish crucial spending details, regulatory filings, corporate disclosures or legislative actions online. Even when such data is electronically published, the government often fails to adopt consistent machine-readable identifiers or uniform markup languages.

The DATA Act would establish an independent body to track all federal spending on a single website and require the use of consistent government-wide data standards, such as XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language).  The legislation will help government agencies and private clients make better decisions while creating high-tech jobs for technology companies that invent new ways to visualize and analyze spending data.

Citizens will be able to scrutinize federal expenditures, both internal and external, and inspectors general will be able to use analytics to quickly and efficiently identify fraudulent or wasteful behavior.  The DATA Act was passed unanimously by the U.S. House of Representatives on April 25,2012 and the DTC is currently active in lobbying the U.S. Senate to consider its passage.

 Open Data - a powerful national resource - April, 25th 2012

Always at the forefront of new technological initiatives, Invoke is proud to chair the Open Data Commission of the National Association of Software Developers (AFDEL).  In December 2011, French Prime Minister, François Fillon, launched a state-backed Open-Data portal (data.gouv.fr), offering free access to approximately 350,000 datasets that emanate from the different branches of the French administration.

A large portion of the data that is now available through the new platform was not easily accessible before, and includes information about the budgets and expenditures of local governments, geo-coded information, road safety statistics, as well as environmental, epidemiological and similar location-focused data. The ETALAB team behind the project hopes that by making this information freely available, the transparency of local and national government will improve, and that developers, journalists and academics will analyze the data and create new services on top of it.

The Open-Data Commission, chaired by Invoke CEO Rémi Lacour, regularly hosts round-table discussions and other events (the most recent being held on April 19th, 2012), that bring together professionals and stakeholders from different horizons.

Further information on upcoming AFDEL events is available here.
